I sometimes feel the same way about what we do at church every week. It is easy to make church something it wasn't intended to be. We strive to do intentional things to get children and families to live their faith seven days a week. I must admit, however, I wonder what the children of LSCC get from our church experience. Fortunately, God's word is powerful. Thankfully, following God requires a child-like faith.
I was recently reminded of this from one of our AWANA directors. He passed on two stories he recently heard...
At home a dad asked his son, “How do you know you are a sinner?” The boy ran to his room and got his red AWANA book – “See dad – Romans 6:23”
One of our Awana girls was conversing with another student at school about religion. The other student’s parents appear to follow a false religion and this student was talking about the twelve commandments. As a member of AWANA, she knew from a recent council time message and our worship music that the one TRUE GOD had given her a perfect ten commandments.
As I look back on 2010, I am thankful of reminders that God uses His church to encourage and grow His body. I remember a couple dozen children who said they came to know Jesus as Savior, and even more who were baptized. I remember parents telling of how their children relived the Big God Story at home. This is why we do church. So, the next time I'm challenged to wonder what really happens, I'll remember stories like these.
