A New Chapter

A new season is upon us.  Spring means change - new, fresh, life.  It's out-of-the-house time.  Open the windows.  Get some fresh air.  Spring also affords us an opportunity to see our world in a different way.  There are different chances to teach our children about God.  With more to see and more to do we can take advantage of these opportunities.

Recently I was reading through an article from Childrensministry.com giving some fresh ways to bring faith into everyday life.  As you go through your daily routine consider using some of these easy ways to help your child see God.  Check out the article Family Ties to Faith.

Speaking of new, I love watching those TV shows that take old cars and restores them to like new condition.  It's amazing to see the transformation from an old rust bucket that no one wants to a shiny new collectable that everyone wants to ride in.  God has done that for me.  He took my life full of detestable selfishness, bought me (in that condition!) and is restoring me back to what He made me to be.  I'm no shiny collectable yet, but He's working on me.  This Sunday in Kids Summit we will look into the Big God Story and see a wonderful account of restoration.  We will focus on our new remember verse that says:

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life...neither height nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us
from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."     Romans 8:38-39

Without the love of God there is no restoration.  Our children need to experience love and respect in order to receive and give God's grace.  Take a look at our new edition of Homefront Monthly for inspiring ways to create an environment of love and respect in your everyday life.

God's Love Changes Everything!

In Acts 9, after Christ met Saul on the road to Damascus, Saul found himself blinded for three days. He spent these days fasting and in prayer, meditating on what he had seen and heard. This sort of consequence would have had major significance to a man like Saul. However, in a strange way, this was actually God’s way of blessing Saul.

As we know, Saul was a Pharisee. Pharisees were the strictest, most devout religious leaders. They rigidly followed several hundred laws. In fact, they even created “hedge” laws, which protected them from ever stumbling into sin. Their legality set them apart from the poor, sick, and lower classes. Ironically, blindness had huge social repercussions in the first century, especially to the Israelites. The Jews believed that most illnesses and deformities were the result of a sinful life.  A Pharisee could not be blind; it would register him as unclean. Clearly, after this incident, Saul couldn’t simply go back to his old life. His physical detriment would not allow him to. But it was his conversion to Christ, far more than his blindness, that kept him from returning to his former life. Therefore he was forced to wait, pray, and think about what had happened.

It was then that Saul's eyes were "opened" to the fact that he had been working against God.  Zeal wasn't his problem.  He worked hard...doing the wrong thing!   After his conversion God radically changed Saul.  He even changed his name to Paul burying his past and making way for an incredible future.

As God’s chosen ambassadors, Christians are called to live differently. Our lives represent God: who He is and what He is like. However, we simply cannot love others without being filled up by God first. It is impossible for us to love without limits unless we are doing it through the overflow that God gives us. We are destined to fail without His leading.

So, ask yourself, "Am I motivated by God's love and compassion?"  If so, you're ready to ask yourself another question, "What needs to be done?"
