An Anchor or a Sail?
My fifth grade daughter is amazing. Her life is far more complicated than I know. While she's no secret agent, I know that her days are filled with important decisions - decisions like which cereal to eat for breakfast! Seriously, she does make many important decisions each day.
Today, I was challenged to ask myself, "Am I more like an anchor or a sail in her life?" Do I hold her back thinking her potential is much smaller than it really is? OR Do I help her see the potential God has given her?
Our elementary grades will be studying the life of Josiah this week (2 Kings 22 & 23). He was king over Judah. But the most amazing part of this story is that he became king at eight years of age! Now stop and think about this for a minute. Imagine your elementary schooler becoming a king. Talk about a life change! His day just went from what to eat for breakfast to who to make his chief of staff! Amazingly, Josiah inherited a kingdom that didn't honor God and God took this eight year old, awakened his heart and used him to bring about one of the greatest revivals in all of history.
How does this happen? Obviously only God can do something like this. But let's not overlook another important person in this story. Even though King Josiah was a young king, he had a mother who served the Lord and led him to follow God. Because of this, God prepared Josiah to have a heart for Him and do amazing things in God's strength.
I want God to use me to open my child's heart to His amazing plan for her life. I want to see her reach God's potential and not limit her to mine.
Be a sail!

You Hold The Key
Maybe you've seen the film or read the book, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It's a story about a boy (Oskar) who loses his father in the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers. After his father is gone Oskar finds a key that sparks a journey to find what it unlocks.
Oskar held a key. To what? He didn't know. But it compelled him to find out. For me, too often I forget that I hold the key. My key is much different than Oskars. My key is to everything in life! What is the key? It's my relationship with God.
2 Peter 1:3 & 4 says:
My children need to see God's strength in me. They need to see me model a life that shows my passion to live for Him. That is a key to passing on my faith and preserving the next generation.
Don't miss your opportunity this week to influence your children to follow Jesus. Be intentional. Make a plan. Get it done. How? Use HomeFront Weekly and Monthly for some ideas.

2 Peter 1:3 & 4 says:
Jesus has the power of God, by which he has given us everything we need to live and to serve God. We have these things because we know him. Jesus called us by his glory and goodness.Through these he gave us the very great and precious promises. With these gifts you can share in God’s nature, and the world will not ruin you with its evil desires. (NCV)Becoming overwhelmed with life isn't hard. Remembering where we find the strength to do what is good and right can get lost in life's circumstances. But God is waiting to restore us and give us a renewed strength to do what is right.

TRU RESOURCES FOR PARENTS AND KIDS
Hey LSCC families. Did you know that we spend time each week in Kids Adventure celebrating and worshiping God through music? It is a great joy to sing with a bunch of energetic children who aren't worried about perfect pitch or what someone might think if they start dancing!
Why not use some of the same music in your daily routines? That's right, you can bring home some of the great music we sing in Kids Adventure. Just go to the iTunes store and search: Tru Worship. You'll find Songs from the Playhouse, our preschool Kids Safari music and Radio the World, our elementary Kids Summit music.
Also, for your convenience, check out the HomeFront Monthly app. Keyword: Tru Home. You'll have access to HomeFront Monthly on your phone along with an explanation of the 10 environments we base our curriculum on. There's also an updated remember verse page on the app. Now, wherever you go, you'll have great HomeFront Monthly resources at your fingertips AND be able to help your child learn the current remember verse.
Enjoy!

ZONK!
Sunday marks the return of Kids Adventure AND an new year of ministry to the LSCC families. Twice each quarter we have what is called REMEMBER AND CELEBRATE with all of the LSCC children. This is a time to think back on what we've learned and how we have grown. But if you ask the children what highlights each Remember and Celebrate weekend, they'll tell you ZONK! Zonk is a game that reviews the past six weeks of the Big God Story. If you haven't seen Zonk first-hand, I invite you to come down to the lower level (first to sixth grade worship area) and see it for yourself. It's a blast!
Well, Sunday is REMEMBER AND CELEBRATE for both Kids Safari and Kids Summit. Each Remember and Celebrate weekend focuses on one of the seven festivals from the Old Testament. This weekend we'll be celebrating the Festival of First Fruits. This festival gives participants a chance to celebrate God as our provider and to offer Him thanks. First Fruits represent the celebration of the first grain harvest of the spring. One sheaf offering of grain was taken to the temple. These offerings were made the day following the Sabbath, which means it would be on Sunday. It marked the beginning of the two-month spring harvest. In the New Testament, Jesus resurrected as the first-fruit offering on Sunday, the day after Passover Sabbath.
To help prepare your children for their experience this Sunday, take a look at this week's HomeFront Weekly. Be sure and take advantage of the suggested weekly activity. This will help your child understand why we are celebrating the Festival of First Fruits.
